Who am I?

I am currently a Junior at Brigham Young University, majoring in Computer Science, with an emphasis in animation. I love games. I remember when I was 7 years old, opening my first game, Pokémon: Red. The excitement I felt, as I entered a new world, seduced me and I have been playing games ever since. As I grew older, I realized that any job, other than making games, would be boring at best. As such, I am determined to make games.

I have always had a knack for working with computers. I knew my future was in Game Development. Entering college, I discovered how much I enjoy computer programming and solving the problems that come along with it. If I don't know how to do something, I just turn to the internet and teach myself what I need to know to solve the problem at hand.

Games

As mentioned before, I have loved games for a long time. I have played many, but will only display the ones for which I have extensive play time, or ones that have really impacted my views of gaming. Games are displayed in order of the amount of time I have spent playing the game.

World_of_warcraft
Start Date: May 2006
Length of Play: 5000+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • Extremely well developed characters and plot line
  • Capacity for teamwork is nearly unmatched in competitive play
  • Enough content that nearly anyone can play the game and find a part of it that they really enjoy
Things to Improve
  • Massively time consuming to make significant progress
  • Can be hard for new players to learn the many different aspects of the game
  • Limited size of RealID Friends list
Hots-logo
Start Date: June 2014
Length of Play: 200+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • New compelling maps that keep everything fresh
Things to Improve
  • Slow response time when using abilities
League_of_legends
Start Date: November 2012
Length of Play: 1000+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • Fast paced and highly re-playable
  • Extremely fun to play with friends
  • Players always have room for growth
  • Option for Competitive or Casual or even Bot Games
Things to Improve
  • Add ability to tag champions with custom labels (Top, Sup, Jungle) and allow players to search by those tags in champion select
  • The competitive nature of the game can bring out the worst in people
  • Very steep learning curve, can be difficult to improve overall play and mechanics
  • Learning new champions is hard because people always expect you to always play your best champion
Hearthstone
Start Date: November 2013
Length of Play: 150+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • A Blizzard game with a nice change in pace from is other game types
  • Short games lengths allow for the game to be played when there is only a limited time availbale
  • Wonderful fantasy within the game, the art and animations for all parts of play are gorgeous
  • Easy to just get in and start playing with no experience
  • A players turn progressively shortens if they are afk, allowing the other player to move on to the next game more quickly
Things to Improve
  • Can be difficult to figure out ways in which cards can work together with each other
  • Some removal cards seem too powerful in certain situations, but I would imagine that is the nature of a card game
Diablo_3_reaper
Start Date: May 2012
Length of Play: 700+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • Compelling story line even after the first play through
  • Combat system was fluid and extremely flexible, giving the players many different options for play styles
  • The visuals were stunningly beautiful, even in dark environments
Things to Improve
  • When the Auction House was live, I think I spent more time there trying to sell gear to buy better gear because it was so much faster than trying to get lucky with drops
  • Extremely gear dependent, I feel like if it had been a bit more skill based I would have been more motivated to play higher difficulties
Starcraft_2
Start Date: June 2011
Length of Play: 125+ Hours
Things Done Right
  • I played a lot of Starcraft when I was a kid, it was my first Blizzard game. I was so happy to see that Starcraft 2 was essentially the same game taken to the next level
  • The graphics are amazing, the continuation of plot flowed nicely from the original games, and added layers of depth really made the game great
  • I couldn't pull myself away from the computer because the campaign mode was so engaging
  • The possibilities opened to players through the map editor are amazing
Things to Improve
  • I would have liked to play multiplayer but every game I went in to I got wrecked so hard I was discouraged, the disconnect between campaign mode strategy and multiplayer stragegy was too big for me
  • Multiplayer Campaign mode would have been a great feature

    Finish Date: On Going
    Link: www.curse.com/addons/wow/binder

    Description
This is an addon that I designed for World of Warcraft that allows the player to create “keybinding” profiles and quickly switch between them. It has over 35,000 downloads and has received a lot of feedback and compliments from players. I actually came up with the idea, and started designing this addon, during a time when I had extremely limited access to a computer. As such, most of the addon was programmed on paper and later digitized. I would lookup certain functions I might need, when I had access to a computer, so that I could use them later when I was designing the addon.
    Responsibilities
  • Create new features as I see the need for them
  • Update the code to be compatible with each new patch
  • Fix any bugs that are found by the users
